FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

"The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) in Washington, D.C., has just announced a new graduate fellowship program designed to increase diversity in the field of state public policy. Applications are due by JANUARY 15, 2010. One of the placement possibilities is at CPPP in Austin. Here are the details:

Sponsored by CBPP in coordination with the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative (SFAI), the State Policy Fellowship Program seeks highly-qualified candidates to serve two years as entry-level analysts working within an influential state policy organization such as CPPP or at the CBPP's state fiscal division in Washington D.C.

Fellows will gain hands on experience while working alongside experts in the field of state policy to analyze the impact of state budget and tax policy choices on low-income residents and promote positive reforms. The program offers a competitive salary with health benefits and features professional development opportunities. To expand the diversity of voices that speak with authority in state policy debates, the program seeks highly qualified candidates from diverse backgounds who recently received a graduate degree in public policy, public affairs, economics, social work, public heath, law, or a related field, and have an interest in state fiscal policies affecting low-and moderate-income households.

YNPN PROJECT MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP

"YNPN Austin is seeking a project management intern who will support the overall efforts of the YNPN Austin board. This position will play an integral part of the YNPN Board of Directors mission to help young non-profit professionals be successful in the non-profit sector.

The project management intern will perform under the direction of the YNPN board committees: Communications, Programming, Membership, Development and Executive. Duties may vary depending on the needs of the committees, but will include:

• Be present at ll Board and Committee Meetings
• Represent YNPN at monthly social gatherings
• Assist with managing external relationships
• Serve as a liaison to area Universities

An ideal candidate will be seeking internship for college requirement and have a strong interest in the non-profit sector. Excellent communication and organizational skills are a must. A flexible schedule, allowing for evening and occasional weekends, is required. LAST DOG FRIDAY

You're several weeks into the Fall semester, the time, for some, when reading strategies become the most creative, congrats! You make it look easy!

Now, all you need is a little time away from the abode to recharge, but you're a student so you have to make it relevant, so the guilt doesn't become too overwhelming. An Answer: CALUTSC's Last Dog Friday, because YOU can juggle more things than those with average agility.

Friendly reminder: Last Dog Fridays are the last Friday of every month during school sessions. This is a time for us to get together and share stories, thoughts, and ideas with one another. Information dissemination at a degree of convenience distinguishable from many. Mark Last Dog in your calendar asap because its a good habit to have!

This same conference was in Austin last year, so don't let the Dallas orientation throw you too far off for this year.
CALUTSC is for some just a start to the social networking we as social workers will continue with until retirement, and maybe not even then. GNLC is another opportunity for nonprofit/NGO buffs to learn a little something outside the classroom.
